The debate between catamarans and monohulls has been raging in the sailing community for years. Both types of boats have their advantages and disadvantages, and which one is better largely depends on your personal preferences and sailing goals.

One of the main advantages of catamarans is their stability. With two hulls, catamarans offer a much more stable platform than monohulls, making them an ideal choice for those who are prone to seasickness or who simply prefer a more stable ride. Catamarans also offer more living space and comfort, with larger cabins and more open living areas, making them a popular choice for longer trips and cruising.

This course aims to make you feel more comfortable at the helm of a bigger boat as well as teach you advanced sailing techniques.

What to EXPECT from the course:

  • Anchoring and docking. Wider beam and twin hulls, baby! Forget about the bow-thruster and say hello to twin-engine fine-tuning control over the boat.

  • Maneuvering a catamaran. It's important to learn how to navigate in different wind and weather conditions, and how to handle the boat in tight spaces.

  • Trimming the sails and night navigation. These big boats have a unique sail plan, with a larger sail area and different rigging than monohulls. Learning how to properly trim the sails and adjust the rigging is essential for achieving optimal performance and efficiency.

  • Safety and emergency procedures. Man overboard drills with the lower visibility on a cat’ and how to respond to equipment failures.

  • Understanding the catamaran design. This includes topics such as hull shape, keels, and rigging.

  • A professional RYA and friendly trainer enjoying his job and more deck space for a week.

  • A full week packed to the brim with docking maneuvers making use of the two engines, sailing and passage making.

  • Another great week of discovering places that you’ll enjoy when you’ll charter your holiday catamaran.

  • Daily briefings and feedbacks that will better prepare you for what’s next.

  • A lot of practice! Yes. Here too. A catamaran is no joke. Most of these boats cost upward of 1 million € so when you’re charter one out for a week you better know what to do with it, especially in bad weather or crowded marinas.

  • A skipper job. We’re scouting around for talented people to work as skippers, so prepare for that. At the end of the course will evaluate you and if you meet our requirements, check your calendar, you’ll be busy!

It’s worth paying for!

Is it FREE?

Level 1 was not free, was it?

As you’ve probably seen the start sailing course is meant for 5 people and we’ve kept that one at a reasonable price. We’re trying to do the same with this advanced catamaran practice only course so we’re bumping the available spots on the boat up to 5 to keep the price in the same ballpark of 950€ / pers.

For this price, some of you will get to hear our jokes again for a full week but this time from the comfort of a bigger berth and an actual walk-in shower. But in all seriousness, you’re in for an advance training week of sailing on a catamaran.

You can reserve your spot with just 350€ and pay the rest in two installments. Join us for our catamaran training course and discover the joy of having more space and feeling like the rich kids of Monaco. We can't wait to welcome you aboard!

  • This course will take place on catamarans between 40-44 ft. Because we don’t yet have 1 milion € to spend on our own boat we’re actually doing a collaboration with charter companies so we’ll know exactly what we can get, closer to our sailing week.

  • We don’t see why not. But we’ll let you know if we think there are aspects of your sailing routine that you should specifically improve before going all-out with your mates.

    • a sleeping bag (for spring sailing)

    • warm clothes that you can wear in layers (it’s better to take a layer off than not having anything else to put on)

    • Windproof / waterproof cover layer

    • enough money to feed and keep you hydrated for a week

  • We put on faul weather gear and keep learning. And if the weather is terrible with a lot of rain and no sunshine, we master marina maneuvers and cheer ourselves up with rum at the end of the day.

  • Not really but we’ve noticed people of relatively same age tend to function better together so we’re trying to avoid big age-gaps.

  • If by any chance you want to do this course a second time there’s a 10% discount.

Also, if you bring 3-4 friends on the same boat with you there’s a 10% discount on your spot. You’re free to share the discount with your friends, we don’t mind.

  • If you have to cancel last minute there’s not much we can do about it. The payments are non-refundable. But we’re here to make sure everyone is going to have the best experience so we’ll start an accelerated process of finding you a replacement. If we manage to do that we’ll only keep the reservation (350 Euro).

And the best part is we can discount the reservation if you want to reschedule.
