HAMPSHIRE-based freight forwarding company, PSP, is keeping boats in the Clipper Round the World Yacht Race ship-shape as it moves vital maintenance equipment around the globe for the 10-month contest.
As the official logistics partner, PSP is providing and managing the freight of two 40ft containers, which ‘leap frog’ each other, to ensure that the race is provisioned at each stopover. PSP has fitted both of the containers out as mobile workshops so that race organisers can carry out vital maintenance inside them. Each container is filled with essential spares to maintain the yachts at each stopover and if anything else is needed urgently, PSP will air freight it to any location on the course.
One container has already left for Cape Town. From there it will travel to Singapore, San Francisco, Sydney in Cape Breton Island, Nova Scotia and Gosport. The second container, which leaves from Gosport at the end of October, will head for Geraldton in Western Australia and then Qingdao in China, Jamaica and then Gosport.
Frank Dixie, Managing Director of PSP, said: “Over the last few years we have been raising our profile in the marine sector, particularly with our title sponsorship of the PSP Southampton Boat Show. We aim to establish ourselves as the best name in boat transportation. Our partnership with the Clipper Race will continue to increase our international exposure, especially in Asia where we have recently launched a joint venture with our long-term partners. Moving such important equipment across the globe for 10 months is a huge job and we are proud that Clipper has chosen us to make sure it happens.”
Clipper Race Chairman, Sir Robin Knox-Johnston, added: “What goes on behind the scenes in organising an event such as ours is often overlooked but plays a vital role to ensure the race is a success. To have the support of such a well known and highly experienced company like PSP is wonderful news and I’m delighted to welcome them onboard as our Official Logistics Partner.”
